Anatomy of Beauty Pageants book from amazon.com

I have listed down the popular pageant questions of all time and sample answers. I would like to emphasize that this is not cheating but merely a part of your preparation so that you would not get too nervous and have an actual idea on how to best answer possible questions.

It was a conscious choice to put this on my website, for I know that the Q&A has always been trivial and puzzling to most candidates. I would like to emphasize again that the answers here are not meant to be memorized, nor could it guarantee a candidate’s chances of winning. These are but sample answers which I fashioned on how my observation of what the judges and audience liked in past pageants.

What is the relevance of beauty pageants in a society? In what ways do beauty contests help women?

Beauty contests give women of different cultures and ethnicities all over the world the opportunity to showcase not just their beauty, personality, and potentials but also their intelligence in a local, national, and international setting.  They serve as training grounds for women to gain courage and introduce their different advocacies, especially those who plan to take on key roles in our society by becoming aware and engaging in social issues and problems.  It also helps them learn to effectively express themselves, educate/influence people and become the voices of hope.

A beauty pageant is a celebration of beauty. It is an act and a venue to acknowledge and give honor to the beauty God has given us. It is also an effective means to campaign for social awareness of different social issues and problems that need our attention since the answers the candidates give serve as pieces of good advice to the concerned public.

Beauty pageants are celebrations of beauty of women and their femininity. More than that, it is an expression of acknowledgement to the beauty that God has given onto us. It is also an activity that brings people together and bridge the gap of our personal differences and discuss different issues through the language of beauty.

Why did you join this pageant?

What motivates you in joining pageants when after all there is only 1 winner among all candidates

I joined this pageant to have a sense of achievement and fulfillment. Likewise, the excitement I may experience and memories I make here are beyond measure in worth for widening my social horizon and understanding of people.

(My primary reason for joining this pageant is to develop and boost my self-esteem. Likewise,) it is a great privilege and honor to become one of the candidates for (Name of pageant) since the organization will be helping the charities and advocacies of our choosing by assisting us in promoting them through the organization’s various programs and activities.

I am motivated because for me, I do everything for God. Pageant gives me a happy experience, an affirmation that my family, and friends are always there for me. Pageant gives me lessons and memories with my co-candidates and organizers, and the honor to be part of a good show, are things cannot be bought by money and are more than enough reasons to consider myself to be a winner. Winning the crown, I guess, would just be a bonus and an extra blessing I would be glad and responsible to have it.

Who is the most influential person in your life?

The most influential person in my life is my mom. My mother is exactly who I want to be like in the future: kind, compassionate, and a true epitome of a God-fearing woman. She is an inspiration and a blessing for me and for others who know her.

Who is that one influential person you want to meet, and what do you want to learn from him/her?

I would like to meet the pope. Since he has profound wisdom, I would like to know what his opinion or belief is on what matters most in life. Being a Man of God, I would also like to ask for his prayers for our place, the people of (Place of pageant), and the less fortunate.

If you won in a lottery for millions of pesos, what would you do with it?

If I won millions of pesos in a lottery, I would use it as capital to start a small business. What is good about starting a microenterprise is that it is not a one-time deal. If, in case it turns out to be a good business and expansion is necessary, I would easily be able to do so and help more people by hiring them.

If you had to live your life all over again, what part of your life would you change?

None, I would not change a single scene in my life. I am me because of what I have been through. Changing any part of my life automatically changes what defines me as a person, and I do not want that to happen.

If there is one thing you can do to change the world, what will it be?

I will not change anything. The world is not yet an awful abode. It is still a beautiful place where beautiful people can live. The world may have problems and challenges, but God has the best plan for us. I still believe that people are good deep inside their hearts where Jesus lives. And because of that, I would not change anything but would rather be thankful to God.

If I could change one thing about the world, I want the youth and the young ones to come back to the churches – to come back to God; regardless of their belief and religion. The youth nowadays are no longer in the churches, they are with their phones, beaches, parks, cafes and bars. What happened to many of my fellow youth? It is about time the children, the young, and the youth that we bring them back to the churches – to God. Across the nation, across the world.

What can be your greatest contribution to the community?

The greatest contribution I can give the community is to join clean and green projects, charity missions, livelihood seminars and pageants like this which endeavor for the development of one’s personality, confidence, self–esteem and other skills which help someone achieve his or her goals and be able to be of use to the community as a future professional, a public servant, or an entrepreneur.

If you were given a chance to change something from the past, what would it be?

I would not change anything from the past. The society we live in and the person we are today are products of our past. The past is something to be cherished, whether it be sad or happy. It is full of lessons and insights that we use today to see what lies ahead. It is a part of history that must be respected and treated as a clue to success and progress.

If I will be given a chance to change something from the past, it will be the Covid-19 pandemic. Businesses, schools, and all that we know were shutdown except for hospitals and cremation centers. We all know that. We lost lives, and some were still in pain because of that. We were at the mercy of the Covid 19 virus. But God is Good. God has not given us a spirit of fear, but of power and of love and of a sound and intelligent mind. – WE defeated the virus.

If I were given a chance to change something from the past, I would change the time when Masbate was wrecked by super typhoon Yolanda. I think everybody knows what had happened there, and no one would ever dare go back to that nightmare except to change the past for the better.

If I were given a chance to change an episode in the past, I would not permit for World War I and II to happen.  I think that nobody deserves to undergo the nightmare of those fateful years, no one deserved to die, and no children of the past deserved to be subjected to so much sadness and horror.

What will be your contribution to mitigate global warming?

I think I should be more than willing to join any green revolution or green movement seminars in educating the public on caring for and saving the environment. I would use social networking sites like Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube for fast dissemination of information to the public, and become a role model for the clean and green movement.

To which famous personality do you find yourself parallel with? Which female celebrity do you look up to?

I look up to the most able, intelligent, fearless woman and most qualified president we never had (Philippines) – Senator Meriam Defensor-Santiago.  She is the epitome of a woman who deserves all the respect the universe could ever give. That would be all, thank you.

What do you like most about yourself?

In one word, how are you going to describe yourself?

I am an optimistic person. I look at things in a positive way, thinking that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty. God has taught us how to trust in Him, and so I have. And that is the best and what I like most about myself.

I am empowered. I know what I truly want without demoralization. I have goals in life meaning and I am directed and focused to achieve that through all means, showcasing feminine strength by persevering just to achieved or do something I can be proud of without sacrificing my set of values that I keep.

I am Patient. I would often describe myself to be patient. Though I and my mom have been through many hardships, I remained to be patient and to trust in what God has planned for us. Even though I have been put down by other people, I remained patient with them and if I try enough and strive more, I can prove to them what I can do and be successful with it.

What I like most about myself is that I am lighthearted and simple. I can stay and look charming and sweet, even in unpleasant situations. I am also a simple person with simple and clear ambitions like finishing my studies, having a good family in the future, and contributing even a little in our society.

I am contended with what God has given unto me. I do not regret being softhearted but rather like it the most.  For though some may abuse it, I am always glad to have extended my hand to help others.

What is your philosophy, or which lesson do you hold dearest in life?

My philosophy in life is to stay morally upright despite the prevalence of immoral acts in our society; to respect and gain respect; to become a friend to everyone, and be able to help other people. With that, I would be presentable in the eyes of my friends, my family, and especially to God.

What do you think is the essence of winning this pageant?

The essence of winning this pageant is for the people of (Place of the pageant) to have a perfect point of reflection as to the kind of person who can best represent the city as (state the vision or mission of the pageant sponsor)

How could you convince the audience and the judges that you deserve the title?

I could convince the audience and the board of judges that I deserve the title (Name of pageant) by showing just how truly willing I am to help in the pageant’s cause and becoming the face and the voice of the advocacy and charity I represent.

I am the best candidate to win this title because I am confident with the way I look and I am proud of who I am and the values that I stand for. I think, uniqueness and beauty is all about being comfortable with who and what you are. I don’t have to be accepted by others. I have accepted myself. I have a set of strong values and principles and that makes me deserving to win this title.

What is the essence of a woman?

The essence of being a woman is to complete the very existence and meaning of life: to become a mother who is able to shape her child/children into good people who will be future caretakers of the society and the world. To make life a little easier, more comfortable, colorful, and happier than it already is.

If God will grant you one wish, what would it be?

I would like to wish for the betterment of all humanity with just a simple word – understanding. Even with all the conflicts that the human race is experiencing, if we have complete understanding of each other’s feelings and needs, I am sure that we’ll be able to attain a peaceful and abundant life.

If God will grant me a wish, I would ask that no one in this world should ever go hungry because of financial deprivation and social depression. It is an awful fact to accept that while the world is busy keeping up with luxury and innovation, there are still thousands of faceless beggars out on the cold streets begging for alms.

I would wish for the universal brotherhood and sisterhood of all of humanity.  To eradicate the barriers of culture and language, to become one solid country of the world, to share one universal truth, and become united children of One God.

If God would grant me one wish, I would gladly volunteer to be His instrument to bring change in this world. We see nothing but evil, suffering, grief, and sadness. This is not what the Lord wants. Thus, I would wish for myself to become His tool – a catalyst of change in order to help people change, and I believe that with His will and guidance, change can be within our grasp. Thank you.

I wish that contentment would become an innate part of humanity so that hatred and greed will totally be over for us to have a peaceful world.

If God will give me or grant me one gift or wish then, I would ask just as the Christian song does. “If there’s one gift I ask of you Lord, it would be peace here on earth, as gentle as your children’s laughter all around, all around.” That is all I want to wish from God. (If the candidate has a good voice quality)

What is being “simple”?

For me, being “simple” means finishing my studies, having a good and happy family; living, accepting, and enjoying life as we share our blessings to other people.

What constitutes true beauty? Describe a beauty queen?

A beauty queen is not just a beautiful woman, but also a beautiful person. A beauty queen has the traits of true beauty that is anything towards the likeliness of God. It constitutes cleanliness of body and spirit, purity of heart and soul, and goodness of actions and deeds.

Beauty is anything towards the likeliness of God. God is the source of all things beautiful. The world would never be a World without Beauty; without God. Beauty has decorated the world with what God has created. It inspires everyone. It teaches us to do more, to be better, until such time we may say life is beautiful.

If you will be winning the crown tonight, what will be the very first thing you will do?

If I will be crowned tonight as (Title of the pageant), the very first thing that I will do is to thank God. Nothing could be more important than offering my achievements and thanking God, who is the real source of all things beautiful.

Whatever the result may be, I owe much to the Lord that I am here tonight. There is no greater praise than to glorify and thank Him not just tomorrow but every day of my life.

What has been your greatest achievement?

The greatest accomplishment I can own at the moment is myself.  Who and what I am now is a product of the lessons and sacrifices of my past and present.  I have become the best version of myself with God’s grace and will continue to be, for what is within me is His gift to me, and whatever good I do with it is my gift to God.

My greatest achievement is becoming a candidate for this pageant. I believe that this is but proof of how dignified and decent I can present myself before the public. Plus, the committee has been very selective during the screening, and I did have doubts about whether or not I can make it. Being on their final roster of candidates is already more than enough for me.

What is your favorite body part?

My favorite body part is my hands since they are essential to the purpose I wish to serve.  They are the primary body part I use to extend help to someone and the very asset I use towards the accomplishment of my goals.

What do you think is the greatest environmental problem today?

The greatest environmental problem today is the depletion of the ozone layer. This is irreversible and will cause a rise in temperature that will melt polar ice caps resulting to the dramatic rise of sea levels, which can be threatening to millions of people globally. Diseases may also be derived from overexposure from the sun.

I think the greatest environmental problem we have today is the kind of pollution that technology, progress, and population produce – waste management problems. It has become a perennial problem to the different cities and countries trying to solve and search for a place to dump tons and tons of their waste.

If you are a leader, how will you make a difference? How will you make a difference in this world? If you are given a chance to be a leader, what do you think is the best project?

Being a leader, I can make a difference by promoting, helping, and asking different organizations and the government to spearhead more livelihood training programs that would enhance the entrepreneurial skills of the people, plus the development of hospitals that cater to the needs of the sick. With that, employment will be provided, and a healthy world will be built. Through these two projects, we could lessen poverty and prevent and cure illnesses.

If I were given a chance to be a leader, I would opt to launch more entrepreneurial and business projects.  I believe that equipping the people to become entrepreneurs would create in them a positive outlook in life, alleviate the unemployment rate in the country, and help in solving the crisis in the economy.

What is “success” for you? What is the most important lesson your mother has taught you?

Success and winning are the results of persistency, perseverance and continuity. Life is all about staying. It is not the fastest or smartest, but the one with the strongest will. We not allow doubts and fears to stop us because both can be killed by education and a fighting spirit. And whatever decisions we will make from now, it has to be above the ordinary because we are not ordinary; and nobody is ordinary because we were created by God and in the likeliness of God.

I believe success is not measured by greatness, honor, or power. For me, “success” is when you are able to hold on to what is right even if the world compromises with the “wrong”; able to live, enjoy and inspire people to continue living with upright morals and to never stop achieving their dreams no matter how hard it is.

Success is when you do every little thing with God and for God without hurting anybody’s feelings.

If you did not make it to this contest, what would you do?

If I did not make it to this contest, I would pursue harder to achieve my dreams, continue improving myself and become an inspiration and an epitome of a person who perfects herself by welcoming all opportunities and challenges that come her way.

What is a “winner” for you?

For me, a “winner” is a person who has learned and realized most of life’s lessons; was able to respect and gain others’ respect; has become a friend to everyone and was able to help other people. That is a “winner” for me.

What is your edge over the other candidates?

What makes you different from other contestants competing today?

We may be equally beautiful and others may even look better than the rest for other people but I tend to stand out from the rest because  I am confident with the way I look and I am proud of who I am and the values that I stand for. I think, uniqueness and beauty is all about being comfortable with who and what you are. I don’t have to be accepted by others. I have accepted myself. I have a set of strong values and principles and that makes me unique and deserving to win this title.

I have very supportive parents who have always been there, as not all girls who join pageants are supported by their parents. Aside from that, I have prepared very well for this contest, and I am ready and equipped with all that it takes to be (Name of pageant).

I am strong-willed empowered woman. I will stay longer than the rest.  I may not be the fastest or smartest, but the one with the strongest will. Because in life, it is the one who doesn’t stop climbing the ladder that wins. I Do not allow doubts and fears to stop me because both can be overcome by education and a fighting spirit. And to be a beauty queen, you must be empowered than the rest.

What are the sacrifices you have made for this pageant?

Some may think that time, effort and endless hours of training may be one’s sacrifices in joining pageants.  For me, these are but necessary investments one must be able to make and forego to be able to triumph contests such as this.  Besides, the colorful experiences and unforgettable memories, confidence, and friends I have gained through the competition are worth more than everything that I had to give up or sacrifice.

What do you think is the greatest problem of our country today and why?

I think the greatest problem of our country today is not about resources and funds. It is the corrupt politicians. The Filipino people and our leaders are so much divided that there is so much faction among us. If politicians could just put aside their self-interests and focus on the common good, we would have a better Philippines in a few years. It is about time that we should be more than united – we should be ONE not for ourselves, but for everyone and for the country because we ought to give back and we owe this one to our future generation – our children.

What bothers you most about what is happening in the country today?

What bothers me most about what is happening in our country today is about our problem with poverty. We still really don’t know how this poverty that is being experienced by a lot may come to its worst scenario. And we don’t know which has a faster rate between our progress and poverty. Will they ever meet? We really don’t know. And that is something that we must really be bothered.

Our government leaders have been so busy forging foreign relations, law-making, politics, and solving graft and corruption cases, while millions of (Nationality) are struggling to provide food for their families during meal time. I believe that the government needs to be more concerned with those poor families and the less fortunate in our country above all else. I think eradicating poverty should be prioritized by our leaders and the government.

If you would (invent one thing) be a thing, what would it be?

(lf I were to invent one thing-) (If I were to be a thing,) I want to be something that would bring back the original count of ozone molecules.  Ozone depletion is irreversible, causing global warming and climate change, which killed thousands of people through super typhoons, tsunami, skin cancer, and excessive heat or coldness. (Optional: It also killed most of our adults and caused for weak newborns in other countries.)

If you would be isolated in an island and given a chance to bring 3 things, what would they be?

If I were to be isolated on an island and given a chance to bring three things, I would bring a lighter, a bible, and my eyeglasses. The lighter will be used in making fire for survival. The bible will be for my spiritual enlightenment. And finally, the eyeglasses will save me for when my eyesight starts to fail.

How would you promote tourism in our country?

I could easily promote our country through its beautiful tropical climate suited for sunbathing, breathtaking sceneries, pristine waters and picture-perfect beaches, bio-diversified landmarks, and popular vacation spots that have become world-favorites for tourists, travelers and scouting entrepreneurs who may consider putting-up business here.  With the promotion, I am not only helping our country’s tourism, but our fellowmen as well in a wide spectrum.

How would you promote tourism in (Place of pageant)?

I could promote (Place of the pageant) by describing it to tourists and entrepreneurs as a perfect place located in (State/Province/ Country). (Place of pageant) is a place where peace and security is not a problem, a place where history and its natural resources are rich and undisturbed, a place where beautiful people live in peace, in love, and in harmony helping one another to achieve the community’s projects, common goals and endeavors. A place where people revere and fear God. That is (Place of pageant)! My home!

What would you do if you were crowned as (Name of pageant)?

I would be handling several responsibilities. Among these would be: becoming an ambassador of goodwill, a role model of faith and good deeds, a portrait of calm and peaceful thinking and action.  I will carry and bring hope to the people, show how to help the community grow and, last but not the least, become an epitome of change.

If I will be given the opportunity to become (Name of the pageant), my role is to become a Good Samaritan to less fortunate people. I would be encouraging ladies to join pageants like this so that they could have the same opportunity that I have.  Likewise, I would help promote the (the company/place sponsoring the pageant) and their endeavor to achieve their goals.

Assuming I will be crowned as (Name of the pageant), I would be handling several duties and responsibilities for the (the company/place sponsoring the pageant).  Aside from that, I will have social and spiritual callings.  Among these would be becoming an ambassador of goodwill, a role model of faith and good works, a portrait of calm and peaceful thinking and action, and last but not least, an epitome of change – symbolizing the will of God for each one of us.

If ever I will win this amazing and life-changing pageant, I am sure that my role would be to help others.  It is also important, to set myself as a good example to young people and the whole community by showing them how a proper citizen should act and strive not only for herself but for the growth of the community.  A strong community is the very building block of a stable country.

Good evening. Being a titleholder of (Name of the pageant) is not just about prestige and honor; it is about responsibility. Thus, if ever I will be crowned as (Name of pageant), it would be my duty to promote goodwill, be an example of gentleness, kindness and faith, and, most of all, to become a tool of the Lord in spreading His will.

If I am crowned as (Name of pageant) and as an ambassador of goodwill, I will be the best version of myself that I may influence and inspire people.  I will carry and bring hope to the people.  I would be more than willing to promote (which advocacy or charity?) as I believe the world would be a step closer to becoming a better place if people got engaged in like advocacies.

Being crowned as (Name of pageant) is such an honor as much as it is a serious responsibility.  It means becoming an ambassador of our town to other places.  It means being a representative of (the company/place sponsoring the pageant) itself.  Yes, I believe that I can handle the responsibility – the wonderful burden of sharing to others everything about our dearest (hometown/city/ province/state/country) – (Place of the pageant).

Would you rather be smart or sexy?

If I were to choose between being smart or sexy, I would rather be sexy.  Being sexy is more than what our body says. “Sexy” for me, means cleanliness in body and spirit, pureness in heart and soul, and goodness in actions and deeds by working, serving, and helping our fellowmen. With these traits as my definition of a “sexy” person, I believe that being sexy is much more desirable than just being smart.

If you are given a chance to talk to the president, what would you say?

I would ask him what his plans for the youth are – being the fortunate one to get the chance to talk to him and as representative of the youth.  Equally important, I would ask him of his plans and projects for (City/Province/State/Country), especially here in our hometown (Name of the place) as the (title description of the place, i.e., Bangus Capital, etc.) of the (city/province/state/ country).

How could you save mother earth in your own little way?

I will serve as a role model who can convince the people to become environmentally conscious and become a point of reference of a person who is concerned of conserving and protecting the environment; so that people will see a fellow who has advocated to taking good care of mother nature and be inspired to emulate and follow her lead.

What is your role as a youth in today’s crisis?

As a youth, my role is to promote social awareness to help uplift poor societal conditions. Another is joining and promoting programs like this that develop one’s personality, confidence and self- esteem – helping someone to achieve her goals and become of use to the community as a future professional like a nurse perhaps, a public servant or an entrepreneur.

Given your experience in this pageant, would you join again if there arises another chance?

I would not choose to join again. I want other women to experience fellowship, happiness, learn lessons, and gain memories that the Search for (Name of pageant) can offer. I do not regret joining (Name of the pageant), nor do I have bitter feelings; I love the people here; they are our mentors. However, I would like to share the happiness I have experienced by giving a chance to other deserving ladies and letting them have the same opportunity.

Joining this prestigious pageant is a once in a lifetime experience and is very important for me. The experiences we had here cannot be bought. So I am now doing my very best, coupled with my fervent prayers, to win so that I will not need to join again.

Yes. It is a rare opportunity for me to check yet again how far I have grown and how far I have developed: a chance to know other girls again and glimpse different perspectives by seeing how they handle life. Re-live and re-learn how we should handle stress, how we should handle ourselves, and how we should deal with other people. These experiences are rare opportunities and are a Gift from God.  After all, the things that (Name of pageant) has offered us –  I dare not say no if there will ever be an offer or chance to do it again.

What advocacy do you want to promote to the society?

I would be more than willing to promote any green peace movement seminars to educate the public on how to save our environment, which is essential to our existence and life. Without our bountiful natural resources and a healthy place to live in, the next generation the world will have, would not be able to experience and see what is supposed to be theirs as well.
