Contestant reviewing pageant interview questions notebook

Beauty pageants have two types of interview questions. The casual interview and the final interview. The casual interview portion is an elimination process for the candidates. Once you did not perform well on this part, the chance of joining the finalists is narrow. It is as bad as losing the pageant.

It is important then that you as a candidate must be aware of the pageant interview questions that might be asked based on the information on the application form you submitted.

As a word of advice, get to know yourself first before joining a beauty pageant. It is essential in winning the crown. List down casual interview questions, and think of what would be your answer.

Describing Oneself

What makes you unique? What accomplishment are you most proud of?

(Myself. I see myself as an accomplishment.) I am confident with the way I look and I am proud of who I am and the values that I stand for. I think, uniqueness and beauty is all about being comfortable with who and what you are. I don’t have to be accepted by others. I have accepted myself. I have a set of strong values and principles and that makes me unique to the rest of the candidates or to anyone. (And that is something I should really be proud of.)

What has been your greatest achievement?

The greatest accomplishment I can own at the moment is myself.  Who and what I am now is a product of the lessons and sacrifices of my past and present.  I have become the best version of myself with God’s grace and will continue to be, for what is within me is His gift to me, and whatever good I do with it is my gift to God.

My greatest achievement is becoming a candidate for this pageant. I believe that this is but proof of how dignified and decent I can present myself before the public. Plus, the committee has been very selective during the screening, and I did have doubts about whether or not I can make it. Being on their final roster of candidates is already more than enough for me.

What do you like most about yourself?

In one word, how are you going to describe yourself?

I am an optimistic person. I look at things in a positive way, thinking that the glass is half-full rather than half-empty. God has taught us how to trust in Him, and so I have. And that is the best and what I like most about myself.

I am empowered. I know what I truly want without demoralization. I have goals in life meaning and I am directed and focused to achieve that through all means, showcasing feminine strength by persevering just to achieved or do something I can be proud of without sacrificing my set of values that I keep.

I am Patient. I would often describe myself to be patient. Though I and my mom have been through many hardships, I remained to be patient and to trust in what God has planned for us. Even though I have been put down by other people, I remained patient with them and if I try enough and strive more, I can prove to them what I can do and be successful with it.

What I like most about myself is that I am lighthearted and simple. I can stay and look charming and sweet, even in unpleasant situations. I am also a simple person with simple and clear ambitions like finishing my studies, having a good family in the future, and contributing even a little in our society.

I am contended with what God has given unto me. I do not regret being softhearted but rather like it the most.  For though some may abuse it, I am always glad to have extended my hand to help others.

How do you achieve work life balance?

I move as fast as I can, and work systematically. Doing things one after the other, and insuring quality in each of these works. By focusing on your work, you would be able to create a lot of spare time that you can add-up to your family bonding time. It is just a matter of doing what you love or loving what you do so you become fast and efficient and save more time.

Where do you see yourself 10 years from now?

I see myself as a career woman who finds time to find her place and become productive in contributing for the betterment of her society and her chosen field but who still makes time to meet the demands and needs of her family and most of all her parents.

Influential People

What is your philosophy, or which lesson do you hold dearest in life?

My philosophy in life is to stay morally upright despite the prevalence of immoral acts in our society; to respect and gain respect; to become a friend to everyone, and be able to help other people. With that, I would be presentable in the eyes of my friends, my family, and especially to God.

Who is the most influential person in your life?

The most influential person in my life is my mom. My mother is exactly who I want to be like in the future: kind, compassionate, and a true epitome of a God-fearing woman. She is an inspiration and a blessing for me and for others who know her.

Who is that one influential person you want to meet, and what do you want to learn from him/her?

I would like to meet the pope. Since he has profound wisdom, I would like to know what his opinion or belief is on what matters most in life. Being a Man of God, I would also like to ask for his prayers for our place, the people of (Place of pageant), and the less fortunate.

To which famous personality do you find yourself parallel with? Which female celebrity do you look up to?

I look up to the most able, intelligent, fearless woman and most qualified president we never had (Philippines) – Senator Meriam Defensor-Santiago.  She is the epitome of a woman who deserves all the respect the universe could ever give. That would be all, thank you.

Challenges to Succeed

Tell us about a challenge that you experienced and how you overcame it?

(State biggest problem ever encountered).  Life can be challenging at times that we crumble and find ourselves at a loss.  The best solution though is not to give up, but to face the problem steadfast with a clear mind coupled with kneeling and praying hard for the Lord’s guidance – Everything must have a way out.

Is poverty a hindrance to success?

I don’t think that poverty is a hindrance, it is the negative mindset itself that keeps one away from success. Though poverty makes one’s road to success a more difficult, we have countless examples of people who were poor but became successful. Poverty is a challenge to succeed – not a hindrance but a stepping stone.

What would you sacrifice to be successful?

I would sacrifice my time, effort, money, and things of lesser value than the three I mentioned to be successful but I will not sacrifice my honor to be successful. Just like the motto of University of the Philippines, Honor and Excellence – not Excellence and Honor. It’s honor first, before excellence.

What is your view about changes and how do you accept changes in your life?

I always accept whatever changes that come into my life. Life is a process so it keeps changing from time to time. However, I just do not let changes lead my life. Sometimes, we need that thing called “Courage” to change the changes that come into our life because it us that must decide how we must live our life and not change.

Accepting Failure and Defeat

What is failure?

For me, failure in any part of one’s life is inevitable. Even the most successful person for sure has failed many times more than he succeeded. I believe that amid failures, one still becomes successful because she has proven something to herself and became more mature with the lessons she learned. Failing is the last stage before succeeding, so be strong.

How will you accept defeat?

I will accept defeat with grace and grateful heart. Right from the start, I know very well that there will be hailed winners and some will go home with the lessons this night had taught them, for them to use it on opportunities that are yet to come. Surely, this journey will be a part of their success in the future!

For me, defeat in any part of one’s life is inevitable. Even the most successful person in the world was once defeated. I will accept whatever God gives me, may it be success or defeat, open heartedly and open mindedly.  I believe that in the midst of defeat, one still becomes successful because she has proven something to herself and became more mature with the additional life’s lessons. Defeat truly becomes defeat if you don’t see the ray of opportunity it brings to you as a person.

At first, I will feel bad that I didn’t make it. But I need to accept the fact that coping up after losing is a process. Eventually, I will surely accept defeat with grace and grateful heart as I realize how (mention pageant name) had given me an opportunity to discover more of what our (city, province, country) can offer, a chance to meet and know these girls—my fellow candidates, and how the pageant committee treated us well.

If you did not make it to this contest, what would you do?

If I did not make it to this contest, I would pursue harder to achieve my dreams, continue improving myself and become an inspiration and an epitome of a person who perfects herself by welcoming all opportunities and challenges that come her way.

Your Fear and Weaknesses

What is your greatest fear in life?

There’s no greater fear than losing one’s family. I’m not afraid of public humiliation nor death but I am afraid of waking up someday without my family, who accepted me for who I was yesterday, will accept me for who I am today, and for who I am about to become tomorrow because for as long as they love me, other’s opinions about me wouldn’t matter.

There’s no greater fear than losing one’s family. All my life, I’ve been doing everything for my family—my achievements, my plans, are all for my family. And what is life without the ones you’re supposed to share these with.

My greatest fear is to grow up. Because as we grow up and become independent and busy with our work, maybe with our own family, and career, we seldom realize that our parents have also grown old and we have given them less and less time. And this must be the opposite, we must be giving them more and more time because they deserve every bit of it.

What is your biggest weakness?

My biggest weakness is my being emotional person. I tend to be affected based on my current emotions. Most of my decisions were affected by this and I do not think that those are the best decisions and that I could have probably given a better one. But this time, I will not allow my emotion to go over me but rather me going over and conquering my it because tonight, I will be – the master of my emotions.

It is ironic how my source of strength is also my biggest weakness. My biggest weakness is my family. There is nothing I can’t do for them. They are so important that even my personal happiness won’t matter and I am ready to sacrifice it.

Do you think crying is a sign of weakness? Why or why not?

Crying is not a sign of weakness. It is sign that one is getting ready to move forward. It is a sign of acceptance of one’s limit but it is never a sign of weakness. It is a sign of strength and courage that no matter what we are facing, we just have to cry a little and then move on because in this life, we only have choice, and that is to be strong.

Lessons in Your Life

What lesson in your life would you like to teach us?

Winning has nothing to do with life; it is about staying. It is not the fastest or smartest, but the one with the strongest will. Do not allow doubts and fears to stop you because both can be killed by education and a fighting spirit. And whatever decisions you will make from now, it is highly dependent on the 3 Cs that we have – Our Choices, Circumstances, and who we put at the Center of our Lives – that is Jesus Christ.

I would emphasize to everyone to have faith in God. Nothing in this world is perfect or absolute. Our perseverance, abilities, and intelligence may fail us in times of greatest challenge– but our faith in God will leave us standing amidst everything. Only Faith, can give us Hope, and bring us Love. (Optional)

What have you learned from the Covid-19 pandemic?

It has taught me to value the things that are really close to my heart – our parents, children, extended family members and friends. Because we’ll never know what life has instore for us. Let us not let life give meaning to our existence but it is us that must give meaning to our life and existence.

Is the ability of adapting and accepting change resiliency of Filipinos from recession and deadly virus. But if one thing that stood out the most is that Covid-19 pandemic has taught me

Love and an Ideal Man

What is a perfect guy for you and why?

What is your ideal man?

A perfect guy for me is someone who has a big heart to understand a woman like me. Someone who would accept me for who I was, I am today, and who I would be in the future. He believes that our relationship would be strengthened through the blessing of God who is the author and source of all things we call love.

At my age, the perfect guy I consider is someone who understands my priorities in life and that involves my studies and family, above all. A guy who respects my decision and correct me when I am wrong. And someone who understands that even a God-centered relationship has its ups and downs but will always choose to stay no matter what the situation is.

My ideal man is someone who has strong faith in God. It is because if he has faith in God, then he would always do good and would always prefer what is righteous – and I think that is all that matters.

My ideal man is someone who has great faith in the Lord because I know that he will also see the beautiful plans God has in store for both of us and he has a wide understanding of what is happening in our lives. I believe that a man of great faith and belief in the Lord is a man who possesses the positive attributes any daughter of God would pray for. It is difficult to have any relationship with a man who doesn’t know how to put God in the center of it.

to value the things that are really close to my hearts – my parents, siblings, extended family members and friends. Because we’ll never know what life has instore for us.

Do you believe in second chances?

I don’t believe in second chances. If a person really loves you then he must have thought doing it right from the very start. A mistake is always a decision not an accident.

If love is the answer, what is the question?

The question would be: What is that one thing that does not hurt? – According to Liam Nelson “Everyone says love hurts, but that is not true. Loneliness hurts. Rejection hurts. Expectation hurts. People confused these things with love. It is only love that covers up all the pain and makes someone feel alive. Love is the only thing in this world that does not hurt.”

Pursuit of Happiness

Describe to us your dream vacation?

My dream vacation is to be in Bethlehem with my family and all my love ones. Nothing is much better than being able to visit, stay, reminisce, to the place where Christianity was born, where Jesus, our Lord, our God, who is the source of all things beautiful we celebrate today. Soli Deo Gloria! To God be all the Glory!

Is your happiness dependent on other people or yourself?

My happiness is not dependent on other people but to myself. My happiness is a state of my mind. It is primarily caused by my own will and consent. I am happy because I wanted to be happy not because other people wanted me to become happy. I take my own happiness as my own responsibility because nobody in this world owns that responsibility to make me happy.  Happiness for me is not a goal, it is a lifestyle. But, I always put it in my mind that happiness, like any other valuables in life like faith, hope, love, and blessings; happiness is doubled when – it is shared to other people.

In terms of happiness, what is something about you that has never changed since you were little?

I am a happy person since I was little. The things and people that are closest to my heart causes my happiness but that does not change my perspective about happiness – I am personally responsible as regard to my happiness. I can keep myself happy not because I have everything in my life but because of the people around me that loved me most – my family and friends are more than enough to make me happy- in fact, they are my everything and I have everything because of them. Our everything depends on us. If your everything depends on the material things that you see with other people, then you would never be happy because you do not have contentment. Besides, things don’t really make us happy, it is the people that are closest to our heart that make us happy.

What are the three things you want to have in your life?

I want to have these three things in me: Faith, Hope, and Love.I want to be an inspiration or a source of hope. It is hope that keep us alive. It is hope that we look forward to the next days to come. It is hope that gives us energy to work hard today. And I want the people to have that.

I also want to be an inspiration or a source of Faith. Faith strengthens and solidifies our Hopes. If Hope gives us energy, it is Faith that gives us that “extra” mile to achieve what we have Hope for. Faith is to believe in something that we do not yet see, like our future, the reward to that faith is to see what we have believed into.

Finally, I want to be an inspiration or source of Love. Faith and Hope are realistic and not just legendary human powers but these two are powerless without Love. Any work done without Love is futile and purposeless. We must do things because of love. Love is most powerful thing that God has taught us. And in order for me to serve my purpose and make myself and everyone happy, I need Faith, Hope and specially Love.

Taking Care of Oneself

How do you make yourself physically fit?

I make myself physically fit by strictly following two healthy routines that is morning exercise in the form of aerobics or sports and observance of proper intake of nutritious and the right foods for me.

How do you take care of your skin?

I take care of my skin by drinking enough water, having enough sleep, taking essential vitamins like A, B, C, and E for healthy skin, avoiding too much exposure to the sun’s rays and applying SPF lotion and skin soaps for a softer, smoother and moisturized skin.

What is the importance of a having a good skin?

Taking good care of our skin makes us look good, younger and even feel better and confident to ourselves. It creates a good impression to the people around us being a healthy and a tidy person. But more than that, the skin is the largest organ protecting the body from infections that could hurt the body internally.

Philosophy in Life

Can you explain your motto?

“To God be glory” always reminds me to discredit myself, be humble and keep myself on the ground whatever I may achieve.

Explain your motto, “Long for love, search for knowledge, and pity the suffering of mankind”.

The longing for love, the search for knowledge and the pity for the sufferings of mankind are actually three passions that governed the life of a philosopher named Bertrand Russell. Love will align me to a Christ-like living, the search for knowledge is my inclination to know what is true and the last one is my desire to help anyone who is in need.

What is your other guiding principle aside from your motto?

The maxim “Push your limitations as you live and die for others”, implies that I keep challenging my limitations; improving my skills and talents as I try to share these and be able to help and inspire others to do the same.

Education and Future Plans

What is your ambition?

I want to be an entrepreneur because I plan putting-up a business and become successful with it. In that way, I will be able to help more people by providing them jobs. I think that is a long-term, continuous and sustainable way to help people and the community as well.

How do you manage stress?

Stress motivates us to achieve things and fuels creativity; but if not managed appropriately, it can contribute anxiety disorders. As a student, I manage stress by thinking out and focusing on the task to be done, and then give myself a break like watching TV. After relaxing, I will start working out the problem. It is simple but I find this very effective.

What are the steps that you do to excel in your studies?

As a student, I try to manage my time well by first, setting aside less important things like going to malls and chatting with my friends on the internet. Second, thinking out and focusing on the priorities to be done. Third, I make sure that I follow my parents’ advice because they know what is best for me. Last, I always ask God’s grace and guidance.

You are studying in a topnotch university in the country, can you tell us something about being a student there?

Being a student means knowing your priorities and having proper time management. As a student I try to manage my time well by first, is setting aside things like going to malls, and chatting with friends on the internet. Second, thinking out and focusing on the task to be prioritize and to be done as soon as possible, and third is I make sure that I follow my parent’s advice because they know what’s the best for me. And the most important why I can survive in a very competitive university is that, I always ask God’s grace and guidance.

Your ambition is to be a successful broadcaster and an entrepreneur, why is this so?

(I will study my lessons well so that I would be a successful…) I am taking up AB Mass Communication because I want to be a successful newscaster delivering the people and the community the information they need- accurate, responsible, and fearless broadcasting without bias and prejudice against influential and powerful people. I can see myself uncovering cases better left unsaid for I believe that it is the right of the public to know. I can see myself as a successful researcher-broadcaster too, documenting every little detail of significance that the concerned public must and should know.

I can also see myself as a successful and responsible entrepreneur providing jobs to hundreds and thousands of Filipinos who are unemployed. In that way, poverty, which causes ill health, crimes and other cancers of the society, will be lessened.

What is your other option aside from becoming an entrepreneur?

I want to be a good and brilliant lawyer in the Public Attorney’s Office to do public service. I want to help those hopeless faces in the prison cell deprived of freedom because they were not able to pay for a good lawyer. Let us imagine and ask ourselves, “What kind of life and future is stored for these prisoners and their families as well?” I believe the answer is already more than enough reason to convince myself to become a good lawyer not to mention those who are oppressed and helpless people because they have nothing in life.

Why did you choose education as your course?

I have always dreamed of becoming a teacher. At first I only wanted to stay in front of the class and ask them to read, but as I mature, I seeing now the true role of teachers. Teachers are catalysts of change and the molders of minds. With this in mind, I pursued my course in Education and to prepare my students for the world ahead of them. Being a teacher is really a difficult job but it is really the noblest profession there is for they build the next generation.

*The color that best describes my outlook in life would be the color white. White represents optimism. I am an optimistic person.
